Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine joined by an unusual gamma peptide bond that most peptidases cannot cleave. It is the most abundant antioxidant inside cells and central to Phase II detoxification. Its biochemistry is well established; whether raising glutathione from outside the cell produces meaningful outcomes remains contested.
