BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a protein in human gastric juice, unusually stable in gastric acid. Preclinical research has examined its association with angiogenesis, nitric oxide signaling and focal adhesion kinase pathways. Controlled human trials are essentially absent. WADA added it to its Prohibited List in 2022, and in 2023 the FDA designated it a Category 2 bulk drug substance.
